For the funding of my research I am grateful to the Heidelberg Academy
of Sciences, to Loeb Classical Library Foundation (for the generous fellowship
I was awarded in 2013-2014), and also to Fulbright Foundation Greece, since
much of my research on Amphis was carried out during the time I spent at
Harvard University as a Fulbright Visiting Scholar (2014-2015). In relation
to the latter, I am thankful to the overwhelmingly helpful staff of Harvard’s
Widener Library, and especially to the research librarian Steve Kuehler, who
went the extra mile and helped me track down an old and poorly cited biblio-
graphical item.
Heartfelt thanks are also due to my parents, for innumerable reasons... But,
especially, I would like to thank my husband George, to whom I dedicate this
book, on our ten-year wedding anniversary, for unconditionally supporting
my passion for classics during all these years.
