athroun. No adverb ends in -oun except athroun, which is used with poetic length-
enings and with juxtaposition of a singular and a plural article. I exclude the word
t aischoun f, which is used in the poet responsible for Heildtes f aim en f but
sitting f mischoun^, since these are nominal

Citation context What appears to be parallel material is preserved at Theo-
gnost. 982 (An.Ox. II p. 162.19-20) εις υν λήγον επίρρημα ούδέν έστιν, εί μή τό
βίσχυν βαρύτονον μόνον όν (“No adverb ends in -un except biskun, which is
the only one with a recessive accent”; taken over by Lentz as Hdn. Grammatici
Graeci III.l p. 509.21); Hsch. β 638 βίσχυν- ίσχύν σφόδρα ψ ολίγον. Λάκωνες
(“bischun: strength very much f little. Spartans”) (both cited by Kassel-Austin
in their apparatus).
Text The text is corrupt and unmetrical. By citing Theognostus and Hesy-
chius, Kassel-Austin implicitly suggest reading βίσχυν for f μισχοΰν f (see
Interpretation).
Interpretation If βίσχυν is correct and Hesychius (see Citation context)
rightly identifies the word as Laconian, the speaker is presumably either a
Spartan or one of the eponymous helots. Cf. frr. 147; 149 (both Spartan dialect).
