έπανελθών δέ εις Αθήνας διέτριβεν έν Ακαδήμεια. τό δ’ έστ'ι γυμνάσιον προάστειον
άλσώδες άπό τίνος ήρωος όνομασθέν 'Εκαδήμου, καθά και Εΰπολις έν Άστρατεύτοις
φησίν·-. άλλα και ό Τίμων εις τον Πλάτωνα λέγων φησί (SH 804)·-. πρότερον
γάρ διά τού ε 'Εκαδημία έκαλεϊτο
And after returning to Athens, he spent his time in the Academy. This is a wrestling
school located in a grove outside the city walls that gets its name from a certain hero,
Hekademos, just as Eupolis in fact says in Astrateutoi:-. But Timon as well says
in reference to Plato (SH 804):-. Because previously it was called the Hekademia
with an epsilon

Citation context From the end of Diogenes’ fantastic account of Plato’s sup-
posed early wanderings, which culminate in visits to the prophets of Egypt
and the Magi of Asia Minor, before the philosopher finally returns to Athens.

origin of the name of the Academy (some of it corrupt) is preserved at

gets its name from Akademos. It is also written Ekademeia with an epsilon,
a point we will discuss in Book 5. Wherefore the majority usage is thus”)

some authorities (claim) that when Echemos the Arcadian participated
