Ist Molecular Systems Engineering (WIN-Konferenzen)

4. Ist Molecular Systems Engineering for Bioapplications Conference
(MSEB)
W/N-Conference on 19 and 21 October 2022
Organizers: Dr. Maria Villiou,1 Dr. Mohammadreza Taale,1
Prof Dr. Eva Blasco1
1 Institute for Molecular Systems Engineering and Advanced Materials (IMSEAM), University
of Heidelberg
The Conference was organized by an interdisciplinary team from Heidelberg Uni-
versity, consisting of a biomaterials scientist (Dr. Maria Villiou), a material engi-
neer (Dr. Mohammadreza Taale), and a polymer chemist (Prof. Dr. Eva Blasco).
It was held both hybrid and on-site at the Heidelberg Academy of Sciences and
Humanities and the Ethnological Museum.
The goal was to bring together scientists from a variety of disciplines inclu-
ding chemistry, physics, biology, materials Science, engineering, mathematics, and
medicine, and to provide a stimulating forum with prominent keynote Speakers,
ample opportunity for oral and poster presentations, and numerous opportunities
to interact with colleagues. The Conference focused on molecular Systems enginee-
ring in the development of biomaterials, mechanisms of cell control through the
mechanical properties of molecules and materials, and mechanical Connections of
molecules with materials. It also addressed the use of biomaterial in the biomedical
field, including tissue engineering, 3D printing, and biorobotics. The Conference
mainly focused on the grand challenge of designing advanced responsive biomate-
rials that can physically control cells to exhibit autonomous, dynamic, coordinated,
and multistep behavior.
The program consisted of a mix of scientific presentations and Interactive dis-
cussions with nine different thematic sessions, each followed by a talk.
After the main Conference on October 19 - 20, a PhD course on 3D printing
and soft skills (such as writing scientific manuscripts, writing a proposal, making a
good presentation, career development and stress management) was held on Oc-
tober 21.
It is particularly noteworthy that the 65 national and international participants
included both established scientists and, to a large extent, PhD students and young
researchers.
Keynote Speakers: Prof. Dan Peer, Prof Aranzazu del Campo Becares, Prof.
Tal Dvir, Prof George Malliaras, Prof. Matthew Tirrell, Prof. Andres Garcia, Prof.
Michael A. Nash, Prof. Cornelia Lee-Thediek, Dr. Julieta I. Paez, Dr. Malgorzata
K. Wlodarczyk-Biegun, Dr. Dimitrios A. Koutsouras, Dr. Maria Southall and
Chrysavgi Zarnakoupi)
